New Albany Next!
Charting the Future of our City

New Albany Next Adopted

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen confirmed the recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Commission and adopted New Albany Next! at its meeting of September 1, 2020.

The adoption of the plan concludes an outstanding planning process and provides the basis for implementation through development policies, projects, and management. The next major step of rewriting and updating New Albany's decades old development codes has been initiated.

Planning Week is Here! July 15-19

We have reached a key milestone in New Albany Next and  July 15 through 19 is set aside as planning week.

Planning week is an intense time of community driven visioning and planning where “pencil meets paper”.  The entire planning team will be in New Albany for the week planning for the city as whole as well as strategic focus areas.

There are two major public events scheduled during this critical week. Please put them on your calendar.

  • Community Futures Workshop – July 15, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.@ the Bankhead Bicycle Club downtown
  • New Albany Next Reception to View Concept Plan and Results - July 18, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. .@ the Bankhead Bicycle Club downtown

The first workshop will engage in a very hand on exercise where participants will focus on strategic areas of New Albany designing in real time working with maps and scenarios. We will take the input from the Community Futures Workshop, refine them, and create a concept plan for New Albany.

At the second workshop we will show the results of the community’s work in highly graphic visualizations and concepts and soliciting comment for refinement. In between, we will set up shop at the Union County Heritage museum. We’ll be mapping, designing, writing, and drawing the future as we hear it expressed by the community.

Area Gatherings Produce Excellent Input!
Thanks New Albany! We had about 100 participants join us for community conversations on New Albany Next!  at our area meetings. The engagement was real, insightful ideas were shared, and a framework for next steps is beginning to take shape. We'll have a report up on the site next week.

In the mean time, If you did not get an opportunity to participate, please share your ideas with us. Pass along your ideas for the future by commenting here.
